In December 2014, I was a father with two children in child care, working as a Health & Physical Education teacher. I was running programs in child care centres and for community groups, and I saw the needs of both – from both sides. Extra communication with parents and less paperwork for educators were both clearly enormous sticking points across both camps, and as I was also given a plastic sleeve folder with all my child’s photos and artwork throughout the year I just thought ‘this doesn’t equate to the thousands of dollars I have spent’.
In the new year, I created a proof of concept and circulated it amongst my contacts. Over the next few months we embarked on our Research and Development stage, and looked inside the industry and all the needs across all stakeholders.
In the second half of 2015 we raised private investor funds and started the design, brand and development process of JourneyTree. We started working with local services to refine the proof of concept, and in January 2016 a beta version of the platform was released.
Six months later, after a lot of testing and adjusting, our first full version was released. Around the same time we secured substantial investor funding, allowing us to appoint Herman Allison as CEO in October 2016.
Fast forward to early 2017 when JourneyTree Version 2 was released; we are thrilled with this major upgrade including of a full suite of educational features and so many beneficial functions which work for everyone involved – owners, directors, managers, educators, and of course – parents and children.
We have a growing service, sales and implementation team, and we are working hard to constantly refine our processes and products so that we continue to be at the forefront of early learning centre software.
